Oh, How I Wish I Had Nice Skin!

unnamed (1).jpg

I have always been self conscious about my skin. I started getting pretty bad acne around 14 and it never really seemed to go away fully. I have acne scars all over my face, my back and a few on my chest. I tried countless products and in the end had to rely on prescription pills and creams because there was really no other way around it. Now, I use a prescription cream for maintenance and for when the breakouts come running back.

Yesterday, I hung out with my best friend, Taylor. (Coincidence, it was National Best Friends Day yesterday, hahaha) We went to the mall and before heading to our favourite restaurant, White Spot.. We went into Murale (similar to Sephora), because she wanted to look at this face brush thing. So we were looking at this item, which was like 200 dollars. and keeping to ourselves. This woman that worked there, came up to us and without us asking for help, told us that she would recommend the sensitive skin one for us because of our acne and pigmentation. Ouch. I know she was trying to be helpful, but it hurt. I have had countless times when random people gave me advice on my skin without me asking, or just mentioned that my acne is bad, but recently I hadn’t dealt with it. So when she mentioned this, my self esteem plunged, and I know Taylor’s did too. We both have similar skin and have had to deal with acne and now acne scars.  I wanted to say to the woman, “We know, we have mirrors and look in them everyday.” Then, when we got to White Spot for our food, I went to go wash my hands and looked in the mirror and cringed a bit. I don’t know if it was the lighting in the washroom or simply the fact that someone had just commented on my skin, but I was not impressed. It was like looking at a ghost with dark circles, and acne marks. LOL. Seriously. Ahhh.

So, sometimes it is just tough to hear a remark like that. Again, she meant well I am sure and did work there, but we didn’t ask for help and there was a different way she could approached it.

Hmmmmm… maybe I am just sensitive, like my skin? 🙂

Also, apparently even if you are in your 20’s you should still have an anti-aging regimen. 😐 WHATTT? So, you’re telling me that I have to worry about my acne (which always seems to come back) and aging at the same time? Jeeeeeez, keeping up with the attempt of having nice skin is tiring.

I always try to take care of my skin. My regimen isn’t really a regimen though, I would say. I cleanse, occasionally use rose water as a toner, and moisturize. I try to stay away from too many products because I still use acne medication on my face. I recently started using an eye cream, because I felt like the dark circles under my eyes were getting pretty bad. It has been about 3 months and I see no difference. In fact, I feel like it has dryed out the skin under my eyes, which is super annoying! In addition, I have huge pores. I have blackheads on my nose that have been impossible to get out, I have tried everything!!!!

So, I am asking you all for advice! I am actually asking, so please do share your thoughts.

I am curious to hear from you guys, what are your skin regimens, if you have any? What would you recommend for the following:

  1. combination skin
  2. sensitive skin…LOL
  3. acne scars- Are there any masks or home remedies maybe that you can share?
  4. dark circles under the eyes (I have tried Loreal RevitaLift and Elizabeth Arden eye creams)
  5. blackheads on the nose (I have tried the strips and charcoal face bars)

Also, if you are in your 20’s, are you worried about aging already? Do you have an anti-aging regimen in your 20’s? Also, if you are 30s, 40’s and 50’s, I would LOVE to also hear from you. I want to hear what all of your beautiful people (AND THAT IS EVERYONE) are doing to stay so beautiful!

Sorry for this somewhat rant of a post.

  1. Lol, I don’t think there’s any cure to acne and it’s scars other than time. It’s crazy, but it’s the truth and probably why none of the things you’ve used isn’t working. Acne just come and go, it has its stage in some people. Ever wondered why most mothers don’t have acne? My mom serious break outs and blckheads when she was ypunger, well, now she doesn’t even have a single spot on ther skin. So, i know mine will clear in due time but dor now, am just loving my acne😀(and i know its crazy, but i cant kill my face with ’em chemicals just to prevent a natural stuff)Also, acne might be kinda genetic in that, after the pubertal stage, there might be people (though few), who have acne even into their 50’s. So I guess the question is, does your mom have acne presently? If no, then you have extremely nothing to worry about because it’s simply a phase.
PS: don’t think everyone’s skin is as Perfecto. All of that hyper-pigmentation, acne, stretch marks and all are meant to be like that. Humans are perfectly imperfect.

  2. Here is a post that I wrote about my regimen: https://iwannabealady.wordpress.com/2017/04/06/my-skin-aint-loyal/
I would say that the first thing you need to try for your pores is witch hazel. It’s 100% natural, which is good for sensitive skin. I use it twice a day. It’s an excellent toner and you’ll see results. I can’t guarantee how much, of course, but I’ve only seen and heard good things. It’s super inexpensive at the drug store of health food store. Start drinking warm lemon water every single morning right when you wake up and then a second cup of water. Through out the day, drink a lot of cucumber water. What you are trying to do is cleanse the toxins from your system. I do this even when my skin looks great and when I stop I always see a difference.
Some years ago, I started going to a dermatologist who was really aggressive in his treatments and my skin ended up literally glowing! You should see them for sure. I had a 3 step treatment every day, and while my face always tasted of medicine, I felt it was worth it. But now that I have a very strict and consistent routine, I’ve been able to manage keeping my skin pretty good myself. Most of your skin issues may be hormonal, so creams and such won’t really get to the problem.
Either way, stop using the eye cream, it’s doing nothing for you, probably making it worse. Check out what I use. I mix and match until I see results. Don’t be loyal to a product that’s wasting your time. Btw, my dermatologist visits and prescriptions were surprising low in cost, esp. with the great results they brought. My face was dry and crack for a while and then it all went away and beautiful skin was left. Maybe seek the professionals in addition to your efforts. I know that when my skin isn’t nice, it affects me a lot, so I feel for your struggle, girlie. I hope that you find the solutions you’re looking for.

    1. Thank you so much for all the tips!! I have heard about the warm lemon water as well. I think drinking more water in genereal is something I need to do. I have a super small bladder, so I always feel like when I do drink a lot, I have to use the washroom every hour! Hahaha. But it’s a thing I am willing to take on for clear skin!

Ok, now I’m heading over to your page to read your post and get some more ideas!! Thanks so much! ❤️😁-Sunny

  3. At the upper end of the age set, I suffer from the driest skin I’ve ever seen with large pores. Have used a regimen of plant based products for the past 25 years. Skin looks better now than when I started. Every day tho…SUNSCREEN. Living at a mile high, can’t emphasis the use of sunscreen enough. Good luck and thank you for swinging by the “Ranch.” We 💕 visitors.

    1. Thanks for the comment! What are the plant based products you use? … I’ve also heard sunscreen should be used everyday regardless of the weather, do you agree with this?

No problem for the visit, I enjoy your blog. 🙂

      1. The brand is Arbonne (www.arbonne.com) and I’ve used it for over 25 years. No dyes, perfumes or harsh chemicals.

Yes, absolutely…sunscreen every day, whether I’m outside or not. Indoor lighting can give off UVA rays which ages the skin. Sunlight gives off UVB rays (which can cause sunburns).

      2. Thanks so much! I will read more about Arbonne. Hey, if you’ve used it for 25 years, you must really love it and are happy with it.

Also, great to know that about sunscreen, wow I never really thought that. Heck, I don’t put it on half the time I am in the sun unless I’m outside for long. Something I totally need to change.
